Some of the best love stories begin with a nudge from someone who knows you best. For Renato and Leanne, it all started five years ago—at a bridal shower Renato never even attended.
At Leanne’s cousin’s bridal shower, Renato’s mom and Leanne struck up a conversation. She turned to Leanne and asked, “So, are you getting married next?” They instantly connected. Struck by Leanne’s personality and their connection, Renato’s mom sent him her photo along with her number and a message: “You really need to meet this girl.”
A few days later, on a warm summer night, Renato and Leanne met for their first date. “Let’s just say,” Renato recalls, “mothers do know best.” He knew right away that Leanne was someone truly special.
Fast forward to a family trip to Portugal—Renato had a plan. With help from Leanne’s mom, he organized a surprise proposal on the island of São Miguel, part of the stunning Azores.
On a dramatic cliffside, surrounded by lush green hills and the Atlantic Ocean, Renato asked Leanne to marry him. “It couldn’t have been more magical,” he remembers. “Her family was there, the view was unreal… even a rainbow appeared.” Photographer Álvaro Miranda (@alvarobmiranda) beautifully captured the joy and emotion of the moment.
